DAY CARE
Mission Statement
The OAHS believes that every child is a gift from the creator. We will treat each child with respect and dignity, and do our utmost to provide exceptional care for them. We will strive to instill a sense of pride in their culture, well-being, and self-worth and to encourage them toward a healthy outlook and a better future in all their pursuits.
Belief statement
Education and interaction between children is the key to self-improvement as well the development of pride and prepares the child for school. The physical, emotional and mental aspects of every child, including their feelings and opinions, must be respected.
Parent’s Responsibilities
We encourage the involvement and participation of the parents and elders in their child’s learning experience while at the OAHS.
Enrollment
- During school operations, the Daycare is licensed for a maximum of 12 children between the ages of 6 weeks through 3 years of age.
- During the summer operations, the Daycare is licensed for a maximum of 12 children between the ages 6 weeks through 6 years of age.
Wait List
A wait list will be formed when full enrollment has been reached in the Daycare. When a space becomes available, parent(s) on the list will be contacted; First come first served and application received by order date.
Attendance
- Regular attendance at OAHS is extremely important if the child is to settle in well (routine becomes an integral part of the child’s day).
- Parents must notify the coordinator if their child is not coming in by 9:00 a.m. as they are responsible for communicating their child’s absence.
- If there is no notification from parents on a continual basis, the child will be discontinued from Daycare.
Fees
$15.00/DAY
- Fees are to be paid every two weeks. If child care fees are outstanding after a week (5 days), the child will not be permitted to attend daycare.
- $20.00 (flat rate) will be charged for every child picked up late.
Hours of operation
- Daycare will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
- Daycare will be closed for statutory Holidays and Ochapowace Treaty Day.
Picking up of Child(ren)
- Only the registered parents and authorized person(s) over the age of 16 years, will be allowed to pick up the child(ren)
- Written authorization from parents if the child is being picked up by someone not on the approved pick-up list.
Food Services/Nutrition
- The Daycare cook prepares a nutritious breakfast, snacks and lunch. The meals are Nutritionally balanced, with care being taken to use minimal amounts of sugar preservatives and food coloring as possible.
- Menus are planed, based on traditional and non-traditional foods following the Canada food guide.
- Children will not be required to eat foods they appear to dislike. They are encouraged to try different foods.
- Staff sits and eats with the children in order to provide a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere.
- All infants are held while bottle feeding, and fed on their own schedule.
Supplies, Materials
- Sufficient supply of formula
- 3or 4 sleepers or sets of clothing
- Pacifier if used
- 8 dippers per day
- Baby wipes
- Toilet training: three sets of underwear/ pullups and three pairs of pants
- Indoor shoes, slippers or moccasins
- Winter: snow pants, jacket, toque, mittens, boots
- Summer: thin coat, sun hat, sun block
Outings and Excursions
- As part of our outdoor activities, children will be taken on regular walks around the property. Infants and young children will be carried or taken in a stroller.
- When scheduled, the children will attend school events, and community celebrations. We encourage parents to join if this is possible.
- Parents will be notified of each excursion, and required to sign a specific permission for excursion forms in order for their child to attend.

- To be eligible for Headstart, a child must be 2.5 Years up to 4 Years upon enrollment.
- When the child turns 4 years old prior to December 31st the child will be enrolled in the Nursery program.
- To be eligible for Headstart all children must be toilet trained.
